I have always said, and I always say it on our consultation calls with new clients getting ready for their Asheville wedding [or anywhere else!]… You should like and trust your wedding planner. They are literally the last person you are going to see before you go down the aisle… so it’s not going to make for a good experience if you don’t particularly like them. We are incredibly lucky at Verge, we have clients that we form long lasting relationships with and who are friends for many years to come. I worked with Emily and her mother Sally for the 9 months leading up to Emily + Elia’s wedding. I walked away with wonderful friends, and it is every bit of why I love my job.
Emily and Elias wanted their wedding day in Asheville to feel intimate and relaxed. They rented out a bed and breakfast in Montford, the historic district of Asheville, where they could stay with their immediate family and wedding party. That way on wedding day everyone could hang out in their PJ’s, eat breakfast, then listen to music and get ready! Emily gifted her bridesmaids with matching plaid monogramed shirts. She was lovely enough to have one made for me as well, it was the kindest gesture and I wear it often and think of how much fun that day was.
And this first look with dad…. tears.
When I first met Emily + Elias they were just completing venue tours in Asheville. Having seen The Venue {there was this wedding we did there years ago!} they felt it was the perfect place for them to get married. I couldn’t have agreed more. Emily + Elias wanted somewhere downtown in the middle of Asheville (check) a space that felt unique and intimate (check) and a place for a great party (check). BONUS…they opted for a true Ashvegas vibe for their welcome party and booked the Wedge and Twelve Bones – they had all their bases covered!
Once they had secured The Venue, our focus was in putting together the team for their wedding day. Photography was very important to Emily, she had a very clear vision for what she wanted in her pictures: lots and lots of lovely light! AJ Dunlap really brought that vision to life. Not only captured pictures with beautiful light, but really captured Emily and Elias and their love for one another. We were lucky that weekend. We had a slow fall and it didn’t seem like the leaves were ever going to change. All through October I kept waiting for the leaves to just turn brown and fall off the trees. All of a sudden, the first weekend of November they decided to put on a fantastic show! It seemed like every tree was having its last showing of red and yellow and orange – the next day everything went to winter, but nature definitely showed up for Emily and Elias.
Floral and design was also important to Emily. Sally and Emily love pumpkins, so we integrated white pumpkins into the floral design. They were the perfect touch and added a hint of fall to the tables without screaming halloween! Emily kept the floral design very natural, lots of greenery, pops of dark red and merlot, one of my favorite details was the greenery they hung in the ceiling of The Venue, it made the space feel so magical!
Wedding day! The best.
Other fun points to note about this Asheville wedding!
Calligraphy: Emily is an incredible artist!! She did all the calligraphy for the wedding including the invitations and the escort cards.
The guest book: A quaker marriage certificate. In the quaker tradition all of the guests at your wedding are the witnesses to your marriage. So even though Emily + Elias are not quaker, I thought this was such a touching way to remember your wedding!
The walk down the aisle: Emily joked afterwards that her father took FOREVER to walk her down the aisle. Mr. Drucker’s response? “I wanted you to enjoy the moment and see all the people who came to witness your wedding.” – Bravo Mr. Drucker!
It was an honor to be a part of Emily and Elias’s wedding. It was such a lovely evening full of joy and laughter and oh my goodness could those folks dance!
xo, sarah
