After one full week of interning for Verge Events and working at my first wedding, I have learnt some things that I would have never known until after submerging myself into industry.  So here goes! The Do’s and Don’ts that I have learnt after one week of Interning for Verge Events.

Do’s

1) Do check with the bride-to-be about the type of stamps that she wants on her invitations.  Any old stamp won’t work and it has to fit perfectly with the theme of her wedding.  Very important!

2) The Verge Events team comes with a kit that has everything and anything in it.  They are prepared for anything to happen on your wedding.  For example, the flower girls started to cry during the wedding I last worked at.  So I pulled out a band-aid from the kit and gave it to the girls, which immediately cheered them up.  Little kids love band aids!

3) Drink lots of water on the day of the wedding.  After all that running around you do get very parched!

4) Verge Events goes above and beyond and provides the bride with a little gift basket to help the bride get through her day.

5) Details details details! When setting up for the wedding everything must look perfect.  From being perfectly straight to perfectly even everything must be perfect!

Don’ts

1) Don’t loose your poker face! If something doesn’t go to plan the Verge team is very good at fixing it quickly with out anyone knowing.  It’s actually very impressive!

2) Don’t wear any color on the day of the wedding.  The planners are there to help and not steal the show.  Everyone looks professional and ready to do their job!

3) Don’t wear uncomfortable shoes.  The comfier the shoes the better!

4)Don’t get stressed.  Have fun! At the end of the night I realized that I actually had so much fun.  It is a lot of work but everyone is so great and fun to work with.  To see the guest having so much fun makes it all worth it.

5) Lastly bring a pair of back-up pants to the day of the wedding.  Because you never know when they might rip them.  Yes it happened to me!

So there you have it my Do’s and Don’t that I have learnt after my first day of working for Verge Events!

Abby Murray Verge Events Intern

June 5th 2012 I arrived at my first day of interning at Verge Events.  When you enter into the Verge Event’s office you are immediately hit with a warm and cheerful ambiance.  Of course the office is filled with a plethora of wedding props that make you want to start planning your own wedding immediately.  Unfortunately, I am not even close to that stage in my life.  However, I can honestly say that I am beyond excited for what this summer has in store for me.  So stay tuned because I plan on keeping you updated about my adventures with Verge Events this summer!

So, here’s a little about me!

I grew up overseas.

Born in Hong Kong, lived in England, and Singapore.

I love the New York Yankees. (I have a secret crush on Nick Swisher)

My parents own the Carolina Bed & Breakfast in Asheville.

I am never late!

My favorite color is yellow.

I go to the University of South Carolina! GO GAMECOCKS!

And most importantly I hope to be working in the wedding industry some day. 🙂

Carol Ann called Verge Events the Monday before her Saturday wedding wondering if we could help on the day of and luckily we were available! Carol Ann and Adam already had most everything planned and just wanted someone to take care of details on the day of. Even after getting into a fender bender the morning of their wedding Carol Ann was all smiles. Twenty of their closest family and friends attended the wedding on the terrace of the Grove Park Inn overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains. As a special touch I put on their chairs “Mr” and “Mrs” signs I have on hand, not knowing that would turn out to be one of their favorite details!

After the wedding, I received this email from Carol Ann ::

Wanted you to see this – especially the last photo which everyone LOVES because of your “mrs.” sign on my chair. Thanks so much for all of your help. I don’t know how I would have done it without you. I can’t help but “hostess” most of the time, but you made me feel like I could be a guest instead. I would not have had as much fun if you hadn’t been there to take care of things and I appreciate that most of all!

and here you have it ya’ll!  our brand new site for verge events!  if we have been a little quite in the blogging world, it is because we had this {little} project we have been working on.  new look, new logo, new colors {ahem, pantone color of the year}.  we added a few new things, such as getting to know our team and what we love to do when we are not in wedding world, updated our real wedding gallery, and made it easy to connect with us on facebook and pinterest.

i cannot thank my hubs, ian riley enough for all the long hours and late nights he spent helping us with this site.  i so appreciate that he understands my vision, and can put up with my obsessiveness about every. last. detail. thank you from the bottom of my heart- i love you!   many thanks also to amy wallace with page and mason for designing our new logo!  amy…red solo cup drinks on me next time we are together.  to our past brides and our vendor community who helped give us feedback on the site before the site was even live – thank you!  your opinions were invaluable to us.  and last but not least, this wonderful, wonderful team of ladies i get to call my family.  thank you for doing the photo shoot at 7:30 am, for putting up with my late night emails and crazy texts, and also understanding the core of what verge events is all about.  big hugs and much love to you all.

go ahead, take a look around, explore the site, and we hope you love it as much as we do.
