Fall is certainly in the air! The crisp, cool mornings are just beginning as the leaves start their breathtaking transformation from luscious green to deep reds, vibrant oranges and stunning yellows. Now just a Pumpkin Spice Latte would make for the perfect combination for planning a fall wedding.

Autumn often invokes a familiar palette of reds, oranges and yellows. What I love about this new take on fall is that it incorporates some familiar hues, in a more muted fashion, with other colors seen in nature. The purply brown of the earth and the shades of blue you see on a fall afternoon.

it was quite the journey to get to this beautiful april day at the nc arboretum where melanie + ryan got married.  when we heard of the tragedy that struck their family, preventing a wedding in the fall, we knew we had to help if they wanted it.  so we offered our services, as they rescheduled and starting to plan for their new date this past april.  melanie + ryan took us up on our offer, and along with their family, friends, and a dynamic vendor team…they had an emotional, gorgeous wedding day!

it was not until about 2 months before the wedding, in a phone conversation with melanie, that we discovered that ryan and i were from the same small hometown of chapin, sc.  melanie to ryan, ” ryan, did you know a nicole riley from chapin?” …his response? “no, but i knew a nicole white”  my mouth fell on my desk.  that was my maiden name!  ryan was the school mascot {go eagles!} and i was a cheerleader.  what a small world we live in.  after about 15{ish} years, it was great to see ryan and his family!

thank you to blue bend photography for these images – we hope you enjoy them as much as we do!

the day started early with a rehearsal at the arboretum – and then the all the ladies got ready at The Hilton in Biltmore Park, who generously offered them a suite to get ready in, and then a room for the night!  they then headed over to the venue to get the big day started!  many thanks to asheville makeup artist, blush by wendy ballance for offering their oh-so-talented services!

beautiful melanie!

i have to give a backstory on this next image… right before the ceremony started, the guys asked me to spray them all down with OFF to keep the mosquitoes away.  for sake of time, we lined them up and sprayed them down! one of my favorite images of us in action!  thanks blue bend!

their ceremony…emotional, sweet, and oh so musical! the groom and his men performed, including when melanie walked down the aisle.  not. a. dry. eye.

love these images taken right after the ceremony…

onto the reception!  the food was fantastic {as always} by asheville wedding caterer, the colorful palate ; the cake by french broad chocolate lounge ; asheville event rentals by classic event rental ; and smooch booth photo booth ; flowers by Jane’s Creative Designs; and the dance floor was hopping with The Restoration Band!

melanie + ryan…what an honor to be a part of your day.  wishing you all the love, happiness, and the most musical journey in life!

sometimes things do not always go to plan.  some things are just completely unavoidable.  for the first time since 2005, we had a vendor completely not show up for a wedding.  we had confirmed with them the week of the wedding.  how someone does business this way, is completely beyond my comprehension.   but…we had to figure out a plan on the spot!  here is abby’s take on the day ::

Back in July,  I got to work at a beautiful wedding at Old Edwards Inn in the Highlands.  It was a beautiful wedding and everything was running smoothly.  Flowers were in the right place, the cake was getting touch ups, and we were placing straws into the signature drinks.  As time was ticking by we noticed that the photobooth hadn’t showed up yet.  The Verge Team immediately started calling the company that was in charge of the photobooth.  Surprisingly, he wasn’t picking up.  We then tried everything to get a hold of him.  From sending him emails to calling every five minuets, we needed to find out out where he was and if we should start finding a plan b.  What is so great about the Verge team is if something doesn’t work out the way that they planned they always find a solution and fix it.  Since the original photobooth wasn’t working out it was time for plan b.  We decided that we now had to create our own photobooth.  Luckily, we had Ian Riley with us, Nicole’s husband, and he is an amazing photographer.  So Ian and I decided to drive 30 minutes to Walmart, buy props, while Nicole, Stephanie, and Brittany’s goal was to find a guest camera that we could use.   Once arriving at Walmart we found everything from tiaras, sonic baseball hats, to a giant margarita glasses.  Ian and I quickly ran around Walmart, grabbed what we needed, and headed back to the Highlands.  Once we got back to Highlands we set the photobooth up and it was an immediate hit with the wedding.  Everyone had so much fun and even though we pulled the photobooth together last minute,  it was totally worth it to see how happy it made the bride and groom.  Verge Events will always make sure your wedding goes perfectly.  If your planning a wedding, make sure to ask your planners for suggestions on vendors.  Hiring amazing vendors is extremely important! So don’t hesitate to ask the Verge Events team for help when it come to your vendors.  Trust me, it is worth it!

~ Abby
