When planning weddings in Asheville, NC (or anywhere else, for that matter…Nicole just returned from a planning trip in London! We can’t wait to tell you a bit about that!), you have to prepare for those “oh sh*t!” moments. With decades of combined wedding planning experience under their belts, the girls from Verge wanted to share their absolute must haves for any wedding day emergency kit.

weddings-in-asheville-nc

A quick online search turns up a million different options for creating a wedding emergency kit, and they are all different! So I asked the fabulous planners at Verge to share their absolute must haves for wedding day emergencies.

Stephanie :: Scissors, double sided tape, needle and thread

Sarah :: Sewing kit – cannot count how many times I’ve sewed a bustle up or a button back on a shirt. Gum – we get a lot of requests from grooms for gum before they go down the aisle, we make sure they spit it out before we send them though! And a steamer!

Nicole :: Safety pins, extra boutonnière pins, and advil or pepto!
So there you go…just a few simple items to make sure that you have on hand on your wedding day in order to ensure that those “oh sh*t!” moments have a quick fix!

We’ve been doing wedding planning in Asheville for over a decade, and as a result, we have the opportunity to work in the same venues quite often. One of our greatest strengths as planners is our ability to create an event that is super personal to the couple, regardless of how many times we have worked at that specific venue. With Lauren and Don, we had the opportunity to design a beautiful Grove Park Inn wedding reception that felt fresh and new and personal. It’s such a fun part of our job to brainstorm with a couple about bringing their vision of their day to life, and to be able to do so in a space that we are so very familiar with.

The day started off at the Basilica for Lauren and Don’s ceremony. The Basilica is such a stunning church and has such a beautiful history.

Both the bride and the groom had such beautiful details.

After the ceremony. we headed back to our Grove Park Inn wedding reception. Sarah, our design visionary, said this when asked what her favorite moment of the day was:

Donald and Lauren came down to see the tent and the room before the reception was scheduled to start. My favorite moment was watching them enjoy the beautiful lounge in the tent and the gorgeous view while they took pictures. It’s always wonderful to see the Bride and Groom get private moments together to soak in the day and enjoy all of the work before the guests arrive!

You have to admit, this is a truly gorgeous set up!

Lauren wanted Paisley incorporated into her design. Paisley is a super strong print and very overpowering. She also wanted a ton of bright color at her wedding – so we had a challenge on our hands to marry the two without going overboard. In the end we found the PERFECT linen from Nuage – Preston Baileys “white paisley” linen. Its a white linen with white sequin paisley embroidered into it, so it’s a beautiful texture and the paisley is very subtle! Love how it all came together!

All of their details were lovely!

As a nod to Don’s military career, ending the night with a bang with a must 🙂 Fireworks always make things fun!

Lauren and Don, we love that you guys trusted us with your wedding day vision, and we are so thrilled with how beautifully it all came together. Huge kudos to the amazing vendors who made this day amazing!

We say it over and over, but we truly do love our jobs as Asheville wedding planners.  Having the opportunity to meet so many amazing couples and share in their love story definitely gives us the warm and fuzzies…even when our feet are aching at the end of a long wedding day 🙂

It is a huge honor to be recognized for doing something that we love so much, and that is just what has happened recently by both Wedding Wire and Borrowed & Blue!

Borrowed and Blue listed Verge Events on their Best of B&B 2017 awards as best wedding planner in Asheville as well as most valuable vendor in Asheville! These awards are chosen by other Asheville wedding vendors, and it is a huge honor to have been selected!

And it’s not only Asheville wedding vendors who love us, but our couples love us too! Wedding Wire’s awards are based on couples’ reviews, and we’ve been given 5 gold stars for 2017 as Asheville wedding planners! Our couples are amazing and we adore them…and it feels really great to be reminded that they love us too!

2016 was an amazing year for us in so many ways. As Asheville wedding planners, we have the opportunity to connect with so many amazing couples and their wonderful families…and we have been given the opportunity to be involved in the design of so many beautiful weddings. It is truly a privilege, and we cannot wait to see what happens in 2017!

So much of what we share on this blog is focused around what we do as Asheville wedding planners (not that that is a bad thing… it’s awesome to have so many amazing weddings to share with you all!), but while reflecting on this past year, we realized that we had the opportunity to be involved in so many wonderful things that weren’t necessarily specifically related to weddings.

Nicole, our Creative Director, shared her top 5 moments from 2016 on the StudioWed Asheville blog. We have so many exciting things to share with you all over the next few days, but we wanted to start the year off by reflecting on some of the warm and fuzzies from last year. So check out Nicole’s 2016 recap here, and stay tuned… we have a lot of goodness to share soon!

Holly and Scott – these two bugs! He’s a British gent who loves the Beatles (no not kidding, they have an apartment on Abbey Road because…Beatles!) and practical jokes (more on that later), she’s a gorgeous, fierce, pistol who loves to give Scott a hard time (or is it the other way around?) and owns a really wonderful furniture renovation company. These two love hard, work hard and play hard. We were super excited to get to plan this wedding, mostly because we liked Holly and Scott so much but also because their wedding was up at Rockwood Lodge in Highlands, NC. Rockwood Lodge is a owned by the Coca-Cola family and managed by the always fabulous Old Edwards Inn. It’s an incredible home, available for weddings and vacations with its very own mountain views. At the time of the wedding the venue had just become available and we were ready and eager to get our hands, and eyes on it! If you’re looking for a really special, intimate venue with a serious wow-factor, it’s the place for you.

Holly had a very clear vision of what she wanted her wedding to look like, and Scott had a very clear vision of how he wanted it to flow. So between the two of them, our job was listening and executing – and that’s why you hire planner!

Because the house is also a home, the couple had the luxury of having their family and the bridal party stay on site with them throughout the weekend. So everyone was very relaxed, and the house was so big the gal’s could get ready and drink champ’s in one wing, and the gents could cause trouble in the other, and we didn’t have to worry about the two crossing paths or seeing each other!

Holly’s dress was a stunning gown with a very subtle and fabulous ombre pink color change. Beautiful, different and daring, just like Holly.

Her bouquet was handmade by a friend out of beautiful vintage broaches and flowers made of ribbons.

Scott classed it up in traditional tails and a top hat!

These three are trouble, even if they do look devilishly handsome in their suits (emphasis on devilish).

Scott was having such a great time on his wedding day he decided to have a little fun and prank Verge. About a half hour before the ceremony was scheduled to start Nicole shimmied on over to the guys wing of the house to gather Scott and his groomsmen and make sure they were ready to go down the aisle. There she was met with a very concerned and worried groomsmen who informed her that Scott had locked himself in his bedroom and would not come out. In all of the years Verge has been in business, we’ve never had a rogue groom (or bride for that matter). So after the color drained from Nicole’s face and she had rolled up her shirt sleeves and was ready to get down to work, she informed Scott to open the door, she was coming in. The door opened, and there was Scott smiling and laughing, and a priceless look on Nicole’s face. Yes, you got us good Scott. Thanks for almost giving us a heart attack!

Holly and Scott were married (eagerly AND willingly all jokes aside) on the compass lawn in front of the house. This spot truly has the most spectacular views of the surrounding mountains, and was a perfect spot for a very intimate ceremony. Holly surprised Scott by wearing a crown of flowers, Scott had been gently hinting (ok, maybe aggressively hinting) that he would like to see flowers in Holly’s hair, and Holly took full advantage of the opportunity to keep him guessing and surprise him.

When you see Holly and Scott together it is so obvious how much they both just “get” each other. They are endlessly finishing each others sentences, and laughing, their passion for life and love is so infectious!

After cocktail hour guests moved to the back of the estate to find their seats under a beautifully elegant tent. Holly had the tables numbers printed on sheet music from some of Scott’s favorite Beatles songs.

Favors of local jellies were placed at each place setting – Holly gets requests from Scott’s family in England to bring back more when she’s in the area!
